This section provides an outline of some of the most recent, significant or forthcoming notable developments and events in Queensland law, including key statutory amendments, changes to the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999, Practice Directions, judicial speeches, book reviews and upcoming events of significance to the legal profession.

Editors’ Selection of New Queensland Cases, High Court Cases and Overseas Cases of Interest

This section contains brief summaries of recent Queensland cases selected by the Editors as appropriate for reporting in the Queensland Reports (as denoted by a half-red star next to the case name) or otherwise noteworthy for practitioners (as denoted by a white star next to the case name).

Occasionally, the Editors also select High Court cases and cases from overseas that are of interest and noteworthy for practitioners.

Appeals

This section contains information about the progress of appeals filed in respect of cases previously selected for reporting or noted in the QLR.

New Counsel in Practice

This section contains a list of Counsel currently in their first year of private practice at the Queensland Bar.

Public Notices

The QLR is a publication approved under r 599(2) of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999 and Supreme Court Practice Direction 9 of 2024 for the publication of Notices of Intention to Apply for a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration. The QLR is also a publication approved for other public notices, including Notices of Missing Will, and occasionally, Notices of Intention to Distribute the Assets of a Trust Estate by Supreme Court Practice Direction No. 1 of 2026 made pursuant to section 135(3)(b) of the Trusts Act 2025.

It is also a publication approved under Supreme Court Practice Direction 7 of 2004 for the publication of Notices of Intention to Apply for Admission to the Legal Profession pursuant to r 12 of the Supreme Court (Admission) Rules 2004 (Qld).
